Watchmen

 Isaiah 62:6–7 (LEB)

6I have appointed watchmen upon your walls, Jerusalem; all day and all night they shall never be silent. You who profess Yahweh have no rest.
7And you must not give him rest until he establishes, and until he makes Jerusalem an object of praise in the earth.

Jerusalem today is a city that has no rest. It is constantly on guard against its enemies who desire to kill the people and take possession of the land. The watchman on the walls are the people who are aware of what is happening around the nation and within the nation to be able to alert everyone of an imminent attack. Unfortunately, the watchman were not paying attention to the enemy in Gaza and a horrible attack was executed killing many people and taking captive others. The diligence of the watchman is crucial for the safety of the nation. In the life of the believer the same strategy applies. We have an enemy who is constantly planning ways to attack us and destroy us. We must be on the alert all the time to recognize when he is trying to attack us. We must constantly look to the Lord for protection and security.

The nation of Israel will one day become an object of praise instead of one of scorn that it is experiencing today and, in the days, to come. When Jesus returns to rule during the millennium everything will change and Jerusalem will be a transformed city of peace.
