As the cattle which go down into the valley, The Spirit of the Lord gave them rest.So You led Your people,To make for Yourself a glorious name. (Isaiah 63:14, NASB95)
God chose Israel to be the nation that he would bless all the nations of the earth. He would make himself known through his acts of deliverance and mercy they would receive. People would see the goodness of God and be drawn to him. God's name and fame would spread throughout the earth. God wants people to know him as a loving, holy, and righteous God. But Israel rebelled against him and caused his name to be mocked among the nations. For the sake of his good name, he had to act to bring punishment but also restoration of his people. As believers, we represent God in all of our actions. People understand the character and nature of God through our acts of submission and obedience to him. When we fail and sin against him, we denigrate his name and drive people away from knowing him as he has revealed himself to us. When we allow him to lead and guide us, we enter into his rest and enjoy the peace he desires for us.
