Isaiah 55:6–7 (NRSV)
6Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near;7let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
God has promised that if we seek him with our whole heart, we will find him. He is not so distant from us that he cannot be found, and he wants us to seek him. When we seek him, it demonstrates our need for him as he is the only one who can forgive us as we turn away from a life of sin. God is merciful and when we confess our sins, he is faithful to abundantly pardon us. God wants us to be in right relationship with him. When we seek him and call upon him, we are pursuing him and desiring to be made righteous before him. Living a life of alienation from God is vanity and can never be compared to living in harmony with God allowing him to transform our thoughts to conform to his way of thinking and responding.
