Wealth

17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Wealth is not in itself evil but can lead to evil when it is not used properly. Anxiety and worry about the wealth one has can be a major distraction and cause one to be preoccupied and damage one's relationship with God. Generosity in helping others and promoting godly endeavors should be the focus of those who have gained wealth. God gives blessings to be a blessing to others. Hoarding wealth and being miserly are not healthy attitudes and lead to mental and spiritual problems. When the focus is on doing good works and sharing what God has given with others, we are laying up treasures in heaven. The good that we do during our time on earth has eternal benefits and rewards in heaven. Being generous with our time, talent and treasures should be the lifestyle of a believer.
