A Life of Submission

 Isaiah 50:4–6 (LEB)

4The Lord Yahweh has given me the tongue of a pupil, to know how to help the weary with a word. He awakens morning by morning, awakens an ear for me to listen as do the pupils.
5The Lord Yahweh has opened an ear for me, and I, I was not rebellious. I did not turn backwards;
6I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spittle.

These verses describe Jesus during his life on earth. He daily sought the counsel of his father, spending time in prayer listening to his father. He did nothing apart from the instructions of his father. His obedience was complete; rebellion was never an attitude or action during his life. He courageously faced his opposers who abused him and insulted him. Yet he stayed steadfast on his mission and accepted the consequences of his obedience and persecution. His life is our example to follow and imitate but it is only by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit that we are able to do it. Our lives must be lived in submission to the will of God and dependence upon him to be able to accomplish what he has planned for us.
