Outreach to Belize with DTS

DTS Outreach 2009
Our group of 7 left Antigua, Guatemala on Sunday night, November 29 with our destination being San Pedro, Belize. We rode the bus through the night and then took a small bus to get to Belize City the next day. We then boarded a boat that took us to San Pedro which is located on Amberguis Island. We were met by the YWAM Paradise staff who took us by boat to the base. It is a beautiful base, truly a paradise for our group. Our ministry here for the next 2 weeks will involve several things: cleaning around the base, children's ministry at a local school, evangelism in San Pedro, open air presentations and door to door ministry. The YWAM base is new to the area so we are helping them make contacts with local ministries.
Yesterday we visited an area called San Mateo. The homes are constructed over the water and are connected through a walkway made of boards of different sizes and shapes. Some of the homes are a single room while others are bigger but none of them are in very good condition. It is hard to imagine living there for any length of time. The government has promised to develop the area but in the last three years the only thing that has happened is some of the homes have electricity. We visited with several families and shared the gospel with them and prayed for them. We also visited the city and did personal evangelism in the afternoon. I talked with a young man named Ian who works everyday, 12 hours each day at a restaurant. His whole life is work. I shared the gospel with him and told him that Jesus came to give us abundant life which was something that he had not experienced in his life at this point. We talked for about a half hour about the need we all have to be forgiven because of our sins and how Christ is the only person who could pay for our sins. He listened carefully but was not ready to give his life to Christ.
San Pedro is a tourist town with lots of bars, restaurants and tourist activities. The needs of the people are evident and Christ is still the only answer to meet the deepest needs of the people. Pray that God will use our team to touch many lives with the gospel message.
